What is a Team?
What is a Pedal the Cause Team?
A PTC team is simply a group of participants who do the PTC event together. Here are some frequently asked questions about Pedal the Cause teams. Click on a question to see the answer!
How do I create a team?
To create a team, you have to register first. Click "Register" on our homepage and select how you'd like to participate. If you're going to ride, select whether you've ridden in our event in past years or not and then you will be prompted to create a team. Select "I want to start my own team". Enter the name of your team (it must be unique from existing team names) and whether the team is a "Friends and Family" team, a "Corporate Challenge" team or a "Hospital Affiliate" team. See the next question on what defines these team types.
How do I create a team profile?
Only the team captain can create the team profile. Once the captain has registered and created the team, he/she should use their login information and log into the Pedal the Cause website. Once logged in, select "Edit Why We Ride" under "My Team". Share why your team is participating in Pedal the Cause. Also, select "Edit Team Picture" to upload a photo as your team profile picture.
How big does my team have to be?
There is no minimum or limit to the number of members on a team. Teams can be just 1 rider or 100+ riders.
How do I join a team?
To join a team, you have to register first. Click "Register" on our homepage and select how you'd like to participate. If you're going to ride, select whether you've ridden in our event in past years or not and then you will be prompted to join a team (you can also join later after you register through your rider profile). Select "I'm ready to join a specific team now" and a list of all of the teams will appear. Select the team you want to join.
Is there a fundraising commitment for a team?
No. Each rider on a team is responsible for his/her own fundraising minimum that they selected during registration. However, an advantage of being on a team is that team members can share their fundraising dollars with one another. This can come in handy if a team member hasn't met their minimum and another team member has. Just call our office and let us know how much money you'd like to give to your team member.
Can only riders join or create teams?
No. Teams can be a mix of all types of participants - riders, volunteers, virtual riders, and Ameren Kids Challenge riders - or just one type of participant - an all-volunteer team or an all-rider team. Any type of participant can start a team or join a team.
Can I join multiple teams?
No. You can only be on one Pedal the Cause team.
What is a Corporate Challenge team?
A "Corporate Challenge" team is simply a company team. Many companies participate in Pedal the Cause as a way to engage in a fun, team-building and philanthropic activity.
What is a Ride for a Child Team?
A Ride for a Child team is a team that is participating in Pedal the Cause's Ride for a Child program. These teams are paired with children who are going through treatment for cancer at St. Louis Children's Hospital. Teams train, ride and fundraise in their honor. What is a Friends and Family team?
A "Friends and Family" team is a team that is neither a corporate challenge team nor a hospital-affiliated team. This can include groups of friends, family members, or just random people that want to unite in their support of Pedal the Cause.
What is a Hospital-Affiliated team?
A "Hospital-Affiliated" team is a team which is comprised of employees, doctors and staff from our beneficiary hospitals. This includes people from Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Siteman Cancer Center, Washington University Medical School, and St. Louis Children's Hospital. If you are not an employee of a hospital-affiliated team, you may still be able to join the team. This rule varies from team-to-team so contact the team captain directly to see if this is possible.
